Introduction
The concept of ideology is one that is very critical, especially when referring to the United States of America as a country. The Americans value their ideologies so much that they cannot go out of their ideologies when it comes to the matter of national development. The reason behind that is because these ideologies are the fulcrum of their constitution, and therefore it amounts to an offense if that is violated. The term ideology simply means a framework of ideas. It is through ideologies, that a country, in this case, the United States of America can foster its economic social and political growth as well as good governance to its citizens (Jacoby, 2020). Ideologies provide an avenue where the country can make the right decision in consideration of their country's interests. America is a country that is guided by ideologies. These ideologies play a very significant role in their social, political, and economic livelihood. The ideologies are considered to be the main reason behind American success. The American ideologies are so respected and valued by the Americans themselves as well as other people from across the globe, mainly for two reasons.
First and not the most, these ideologies originate from the religions of the people of America. Religion is considered as very sacred and thus holy. It is believed that an individual holds. In America, there are different religious beliefs, and each of them is equally respected. For that reason, each one's interest is captured in the American ideologies since every one belongs to a certain religion (Jacoby, 2020). America is known to be the home of very many diverse religions, and all these religions are considered in these ideologies since they are all-inclusive. Secondly, the American ideologies were also obtained from the philosophical work of scholars as well as the experts and the government agencies in America. That was in an attempt to find the best ideas which the citizens wanted to be guided by. It is after wide consultations that they came up with these ideologies. It was after thorough research work was done that they concluded about the best ideologies which suit the people of America.
Two Types of Ideologies in America
There are two broad types of ideologies in America. These two ideologies attract support from the members of the public in equal measure. In America, the constitution is very clear in that it respects every one right, and thus the opinion of everyone is respected irrespective of religion, race, or ethnicity (Jacoby, 2020). For that reason, the Americans have learned to respect each other's right, and therefore it is upon the government to protect their citizens against any form of discrimination from one another just because one is affiliated to a certain ideology. These ideologies are:
Conservatives
Conservatives are those members of the public who thought that the government should maintain the status quo by ensuring that the traditional political, social, and institutions of government were retained. They were against the introduction of new ways of how government worked. They championed for the retention of the traditional ways in that they did not see the need to adapt to newer ways since they argued that it would promote underdevelopment in America. On the other hand, the government thought it the opposite.
Liberals
The liberals consist of those who were of the opposite view. They thought that it was high time that the people of America should be set free from the traditional political, social, and institutions in running their national affairs. They were against the systems of the conservatives, which they argued that it was very oppressive and thus did not give much room for the development. They wanted to be untied from the old ways which they considered as retrospective ways and thus adopt more improved ways, especially with the introduction of the new technologies which were already in place by then.
The ideologies in America as a country have been very significant, and one cannot talk about the development of America without mentioning ideology. The issue of ideologies is behind America's mass growth in terms of political, social, and economic growth (Jacoby, 2020). All these developments have been necessitated by the existence of the ideologies which have been instrumental in policymaking and implementation in very many various sectors of the government. The following are how I think the ideologies in America have been beneficial to the Americans today.
First, I think ideologies in America have been very significant and influential in the voting systems of the people of America. In every political contest, there must be some different political camps. These political camps must convince their voters that they are the best candidates to be voted for. They must tell their voters what they got to do for them once elected to the office. Ideology is what the political party one is riding on stands for. Political parties must have ideologies that enable them to convince their voters that they are the better option compared to the others who are seeking to be elected (Holdo, 2019). In the American political system, ideologies have been manifested in the way people vote for their candidates in the elective seats. It's through the party ideologies that the voters can evaluate what ideologies they think are likely to benefit their voters. If party ideologies seem to favor them, then it is likely that they will vote the candidate who is fronted by that political party. For instance, the conservatives looked at it in a different way whereby, only white Americans were elected in public offices. That promoted racial segregation and thus against the human rights of African Americans. The liberals thought it differently and thus promoted equality by giving a chance to anyone interested in contesting for any elective seats.
Secondly, ideologies are also very critical instruments in policymaking as well as the implementation of these policies. In every government in the world, it is in history that governments and top government officials have had to be involved in the making and implementation of policies. These policies usually are aimed at benefitting the members of the public as well as to enable the governments to achieve its goals and pledges to the citizens. The government of America has on very many occasions, had to make and implement these policies according to the ideologies of the government of the day. The conservatives have been involved in this on very many occasions, as well as the liberals just as much as it serves their interest. For example, during the administration of Franklin D. Roosevelt (1933-1945) his government had to take some swift measures in the regulation of the business enterprises which was not under the control of the government, but under the full control of the business people (Armstrong et al., 2019).
For the better part of history, the government never involved itself from the business enterprises, and so everyone was free to sell his or her commodities at the prices he/she thought was right. That meant that the business was capitalistic, which is very exploitive, and thus the consumers would suffer from overpricing to being sold low-quality products as well as products that are not fit for use. As much as this policy was harsh to some people, especially to the business class who were exploitive by hiking the prices of the commodities, the later was good for the consumers who welcomed the government's move, which favored them from their counterparts. Therefore, sometimes the governments may be forced to take some strict measures which to some may sound inappropriate but as much as it serves the common goal of the public and it is in line with the ideology that the government of the day holds, it is fully acceptable (Vergara, 2019). Today in America, we've seen in very many instances when the governments have been involved in the making and implementation of policies which in turn have replaced others when the government considers the latter as oppressive and non-developmental to the future generations.
The American ideology has made some great impacts on the culture, politics, and the government of America. To my thinking, I think that if it were not for the ideologies in America, the country would still be underdeveloped as compared to the current state of the country (Armstrong, Carlos Chavez, Jones, Harris & Harris, 2019). These ideologies have contributed a lot to the cultures, politics, and the government of America in the following ways:
In terms of the culture, it has achieved in bringing the Americans together by working as a nation united in the same course. America is known to be one country with varied people, both black and white Americans. These people share different values, beliefs, and traditions, among others. The ideologies have achieved to consolidate all these factors together and make them understand that despite sharing different cultures, the most important thing of all is to understand that they are all Americans and therefore there was the need to work as one united people (Armstrong, Carlos Chavez, Jones, Harris & Harris, 2019). People should not look at one another based on skin color or any other thing but see each other as brother and sister. By so doing, America has had to move on despite having very many different people and have lived peacefully.
In terms of political systems, American has had to grow every day. The Americans have got to understand that it's about one's ideologies that matter in politics and not a race, gender, or any other factor. They have also learned that politics of discrimination won't take them anywhere, but they should look at a candidate based on what his /her ideologies stand for (Kramnick, 2019). This was manifested when the Americans agreed to elect the first African American to the highest office in the land that is the former retired President Barack Obama, who served two complete terms. At this time, the Americans did not look at the background or the skin color but they looked at the personality in him and the ideologies he stood for.
Lastly and not least, American ideology contributed very much to the building of the American government. New and specialized institutions have been created to ensure that the people of America received the best services they deserve. The government has been able to ensure that her citizens live well and are facilitated well by offering the best-required hospital's school's roads and social amenities, among many others (Holdo, 2019). It's through the ideology that the government has lived to their pledges of ensuring that they deliver to their citizens. America is also one of the countries with the best constitution which covers the entire society. It does not discriminate against anyone, and thus it protects everyone's rights and duties.
Conclusion
In conclusion, American ideology has been very instrumental in making America what it is proud of today. We must credit the former leaders for some best decisions they had to make despite some opposition from others. They did stand for America, whereby they wanted to make America a great nation. Today, we are proud of America because it is one that accommodates everyone despite the races or any other aspect that anyone may consider. It has empowered different people in terms of political, social, and economic empowerment. America has taught us that anyone can seek any elective position and thus promoted equality. Therefore, American ideology has done better than harm.
