In this era, technological improvement is highly applauded. Technology has changed many aspects of human life and more so to the better. A cell phone is one of the technical devices that continue to grow and improve every other day. Companies in the phone market are competitively launching new models of cell phones that are smaller, multipurpose and better enhanced to suit everyday activities to (Jinchun and Liang, 56). They have gone to the extent of replacing other devices such as computers and laptops. With a cellphone, especially the improved version known as smarts phone, one can carry out turns of activities that range from communication, recording, video taking, information searching, data storage, banking, and marketing. According to Jinchun and Liang, (23), the cellphone is one of the most significant achievements of a lifetime that has increasingly contributed to the world close relation making the world a global village. At the comfort of one's home or office, one can connect to the world in swiftly and cheaply. Cell phones can be celebrated in many ways, and in this essay, therefore, the impact of cellphone revolution on communication will be analyzed explained.
A cell phone is multipurpose, but communication is the device greatest importance. Cellphones have improved the way information is channeled from one destination to another. Unlike traditional channels of communication such as letters, cell phone communication is faster and convenient. It takes second to convey and access information from any part of the world at one's comfort. A lot of traveling has been cut since one can carry instruction through the phone without necessarily being present in the scene. Smart Phones that are enhanced with video chats have made the process of communication more appropriate. One can make a live call, and ask to be taken around the work sites to view progress and also one can communicate to the large audience without being present. Apart from video calling and calling messaging and emailing are other means of communication made easier. Many of the people especially the youths prefer messages over calling. Comparing young persons and the adult's, statistic show that old adults receive less than ten messages a day but more than ten calls. The youth reports, on the other hand, are different, reports indicate that they receive more than ten messages a day, but the number of calls is less (Zebroff and Kaufman 52). It is however agreeable that whether calling, emailing or messaging communication is enhanced through cellphone use.
Although we celebrate the significant achievements brought about by communication, it would be necessary to have a glimpse of the adverse effects cell phones have caused human contact. Communication is a vital channel through which individuals interact and make a social connection. Communication allows people create intimate relationships and develop empathy. This has changed following the constant use of cell phones. People prefer to spend more time on their phone than in making a face to face communication. It is more prevalent to see friends sitting together all glued to their phones than investing the time to make regular connections. The adults are not as affected in this case as youths. Many of the teens and children have made cellphones their best friends, and they are 24hrs glued to their phones messaging, emailing and twitting. Social media has made cellphone addiction more prevalent, and face to face socialization is dying. Social negative behaviors and mental break down are on the rise today, especially among the youths and teens. Such disorders draw their cause from the minimized face to face communication. People are more withdrawn and more so unable to develop excellent communication skills to fit in the ordinary world, and this affects even people's future career. Cases of internet addiction, low self-esteem, and poor communication etiquette are increasing reported today, and the primary solution is to cut off too much phone time and capitalize on making human interaction, expressing emotions as they are and creating fun activities through play and exercise (Drago, 70).
Conclusion
Though there is a lot to be celebrated about technology advancement especially the area of cellphones, significant setbacks lay low and affect human functioning. It is necessary therefore to realize both the positive and negative impact and stay informed of the damages caused by this technological innovation. Information is power, and when individuals are notified, then many will seek solutions to the problems before it becomes a significant setback. Although adults seem cautious when using cell phones and spare free time to interact with peers, youths need to be enlightened and often reminded why it is essential to embrace face to face communication, unlike cellphone communication. Though it is not easy to train and educate them on the importance of social interaction, as they grow they begin to understand important of social communication and interaction than cellphone communication. Overly cellphones are useful and have improved life, but it would be vital to watch out for the negative impacts too and seek remedy.
