Hey Upper East Siders. Gossip Girl here. And I have the biggest news ever. Many teens have seen the TV shows called Gossip Girl and many of them wanted to be like them, Refined. Elegant and imposing. Gossip Girl is a series that revolves around the lives of privileged upper-class adolescents living in Manhattan's Upper East Side. One scene that caught my attention while I was watching this teen drama was when these privileged kids took a limousine to their school instead of taking the school bus. While in the limousine, they were talking about how people who take the bus are impoverished. These kids are living on the upper east side of NYC. Their lives are not like an ordinary 16-year-old, it is all about glamour, private parties debutante balls and fashion shows and if there is anything that they care about, it's the fame and fortune that they have. While technology has been embraced as a good thing, it can pose great danger to the society if not handled properly.

Everyone wants to be famous, have money and fame, especially if you are16 years old. However, there are responsibilities that come with fame and fortune. One of these is guarding one's personal values. Are you willing to lose them in exchange for the life you desire? Can you make the sacrifices that come with it? Or most importantly, is it worth it for all the glamour and none of the reality? Gossip Girl shows us a different perspective on other people and their lives. These characters on the show are willing to do anything for the so-called better life and a social life that they have, and they desire. To them, a good life is composed of wealth and high end living as they see in the social media. One of the characters, Dan Humpfry finds himself in a fix as he tries to adjust to his low life in the middle of a population that fancies luxurious life. He later realizes that it is not what matters most is the goals that he has set and the determination to achieve them. Dan Humpfry is a representative of the many young people who are faced with the dilemma of choosing between their dreams and fictitious high-end life that they observe in the social media.

In today's society, people are getting more careful about their appearance and their physicality. Social Media today is so much bigger than what it used to be. As the usage of social media increases, it portends both positive and negative influences. People are concerned about how they look in the pictures, how much they weigh and what brand of clothes they are wearing, this is all because society is trying to accept a way of acceptance and beauty, which is in the form of a runway model. Whether it is the body measure or the beauty or even fame, people and especially younger adults want to be like them and are willing to lose their personal values to get there. As much as all these newly made social beliefs are negatively affecting our society, I believe that there are some positive effects that are coming to our life. Despite the fact that social media drove our focus on our physical appearance, a lot of good things came with this. Firstly, people are more careful with what they eat and put into their bodies, more greens, and less fast foods. Not only has this but also peopled starting to take action about their daily activities and the importance of exercise which resulted in a decrease in the obesity rate worldwide.

Every film produced must have a target audience that it seeks it seeks to communicate to. According to CW spokesman Paul McGuire, the target audience for Gossip Girl is 18- to 34-year-old women, with a median viewer age of 27 years old. Considering the age range it is safe to say that Gossip Girl was intended to show how they youth mould their life and how they are influenced by the lives of others. Goal setting and being disciplined is a virtue that youths must learn and practice to avoid the negative influences that come from others and technology. This is thing that Gossip Girl does best in revealing. The film also explicitly shows the desire for people to be rich and famous. For instance, Serena lives in a world of money, fashion shows and fundraisers, something that other characters such as Vanessa do not seem to like. These parallel lives can be used to show how the youths are driven by different desires and how their interpretation of live differs.

One needs to maintain their stand and be disciplined in all that they do. Hedges "invasion of the dump" refers to the ability of things such as technology, wealth or fame being able to destroy a person instead of helping them. Remaining focused, determined and disciplined can help one avoid peer pressure and fancied lifestyles that are lived by others. As a person, I have learnt from Gossip Girl the need to remain focused on my life and avoid external influences.
