Progressively, it has been advanced that criminal events rarely necessitate extensive coverage to any pertaining media outlet hence the ease to get shared within news outlets. Additionally, politicians always plug against crime activities to make their vision in the political arena a success since no leader wishes to get associated with criminal activities. The United States televised workouts and print media have been acknowledged to embellish incidences of crimes exclusively violent crime.
Moreover, media outlets assist in setting the degree of the crime plus its outlook to public reception. Criminologists have developed criteria to depict fear of crime. Risk of victimization plus fear of specific crimes is some of the variables which, have become elaborated to define the fear of crime. Countless research have remained scrutinized to explain the interrelation of media and âfear of crimeâ. One of the studies on, âNewspaper Reading and Crime-related Anxietyâ expounded that the majority of the persons who read newspapers are the fearless individuals with their residence in the high crime zones (Eschholz, 1997).
