Introduction

Filmmaking is an important role that involves creative work development, which ends up as films or movies at the end of its production. Generally, filmmaking is a process that consists in making of a film that is intended for exhibition extensively in the theatres. Filmmaking is an art since it means make creation stages like an initial idea which is presented in screenwriting, casting, shooting and sound recording, pre-production, which is then edited for screening in front of an audience during the film release (Stoller, 2019). Being behind the camera players a vital role in the film as they create themes and implement them to imitate the actual life events hence the message, they present often reaches the audience watching these films or TV series. As a filmmaker, movies can use various elements like voice-over, slow motion, free frames, rapid editing, and aggressive camera movement sequence set to popular music (Stoller, 2019). All these features need to be synchronized with the theme for practical realism effects, therefore, making them more relatable to real-life situations.

When learning filmmaking, there are five stages involved, and they include; development, pre-production, production, post-production, and finally, the distribution of the film. The development process consists of the creation of a story or idea, then scriptwriting, a film pitch is prepared to conclude the development process. The pre-production process includes storyboarding all the actors by using concept artists and illustrations (Stoller, 2019). Afterward, a production budget and expenditure plan are drawn for production purposes, including insurances for any accident that might happen while acting. The production process involves the creation of scenes where the film is being shot, and more crew members come in as recruits. When shooting, rehearsal, and script blocking is conducted, then action shots are taken according to the direction. Post-production mainly involves editing visuals, sound effects are designed and recorded, and music tracks composed for the film produced and added (Stoller, 2019). Also, computer-graphic visual effects are added digitally to complete all the editing.

The process of filmmaking is every much involving as acting itself to become authentic and relatable to the audience watching effectively. A process like screenwriting requires a very creative person to determine the environment, the casts, and the implementation of the themes in the film to make it relevant. Also, they have to consider characters involved in certain scenes while carrying their subject matter effectively while in action (Stoller, 2019). Similarly, filmmakers direct all the scenes while overseeing all the stunts performed to perfection. They also control was, when, and how the camera is placed to shoot these scenes entirely for easy voice recording and simple editing after completing the entire shooting process. When filmmakers are producing films, they have to keep all these features in their minds for the TV series to be more productive and helpful to the audience (Shone 2016). A filmmaker has to ensure all the instruction given is implemented adequately for their creative to portray itself in the best possible scenario while avoiding unprofessionalism. And the film crew members need to provide advice to the director on the implementation of their ideas to a particular film to enhance its authenticity and realism while still entertaining the audience as far as possible.

Another important aspect of filmmaking is the themes used to develop the storyline of an idea created by the filmmaker. A good filmmaker makes the movie or TV series more exciting and enjoyable while educating all its audience through the implementation of themes. Themes play essential roles in filmmaking as they develop the movie or TV Serie storyline and adds other features plot twist to make the film more enjoyable to watch (Shone 2016). Many filmmakers come up with ideas and then create their storyline and plot twist as the storyline progresses. And based on the concept and themes, directors can determine the character traits of each of the casting to continue developing and creating more action on the topics presented in movies. An excellent example of a filmmaker that utilizes themes to build on their idea is Martin Charles Scorsese. He is famously known for Scorsese bodywork, which majorly comprises of themes which people from Italian American identity can relate to in various levels. Most of these themes include the catholic concept of redemption, machismo, guilt, gang conflict, and modern crime.

In the filmmaking process, I consider Martin Scorsese, my mentor, since he has managed to employ his real-life themes into most of his films while adding a touch of authenticity. Looking at most of Scorsese films, they are based on real-life events that are artistically amalgamated with fictitious scenes to make them enjoyable to watch all the time. A good example is his recent work, the Irishman, which tries to define how immigrants from Italy shaped ways of conducting business in America while holding on to romantic elements, which include the importance of family and trust when conducting business transactions (Lopes 2019). Therefore, a movie or TV series made by a filmmaker needs to resonate with contemporary issues people face while leading their daily lives (Shone 2016). Films that address issues like crime, religion, psychology, and racial issues tend to give the director an upper hand of becoming the best. Martin Scorsese has many awards like Academy Awards, director's guild of American awards, Emmys Golden Globes awards, Cannes Films Festival best director awards, and many others. He is known for directing one of the best films called the Wolf od Wall Street, the Departed and Gangs of New York. Also, Mr. Scorsese's Life has been voted the second-best filmmaker of all time, getting ahead of his peers who are considered best filmmakers like Alfred Hitchcock and Steven Spielberg.

According to what I learned from Martin Scorsese, an excellent artistic filmmaking process requires an original mind with original ideas or story which may come from biographies, another film, true stories, or a graphical novel. And an initial idea allows directors to play-write their ideas authentically. It is vital to consider the clarity of the role played by each character, high-quality dramatization with a final relatable style (Lopes 2019). Similarly, plays developed by Scorsese have a high financial potential due to its market reach due to a lower age limit due to its genre, which is mostly relatable to a larger population; hence, quick production and marketing. Imitating Scorsese's approach as an artist gives a person a broader scope to look at life to determine what kind of theme and genre a filmmaker can incorporate in their films to make them relatable, enjoyable, and finally educative to all people.
