Introduction

Fireproof is a story that revolves around couples Caleb and Catherine. Primarily, the two are not able to understand each other in their marriage, and as a result are unable to proceed together in marriage. As observed, they are forced to resort to divorce and related issues. On the other hand, despite all these challenges, they have managed to address marriage issues even though some, especially regarding communication, characterized it. The audience is, however, able to resolve their problems after the "Love Dare". Their marriage picks immediately as a result.

Interpersonal Communication Concepts Identified in Fireproof

There are various aspects of interpersonal communication outlined in the Fireproof Movie. It suggests that genuine connection is only vital when there is a proper understanding of the parties involved. Notably, little relationship between Caleb and Catherine is evident in the Fireproof Movie especially before Caleb's embrace of the "Love Dare" program and spiritual tenets of Christianity. Recent takes centre towards each other, out of which through prism their communication was filtered. However, true communication happens when Caleb embraces the true characters of being a Christian. Further, he identified himself as more substantive than his own. When Catherine becomes sick, she was forced to confront the "new" husband she had because of the "Love Dare" program, and therefore at this point, actual communication is also evident.

Other than that another aspect of interpersonal communication shown in the movie is the relationship that someone has with something more substantial than themselves. Notably, Caleb can engage in a conversation only at a particular time when he establishes communication with the divine. Primarily, Caleb had used substitution for communication. Consequently, self-disclosure is purely evident in Caleb's marriage because of the conflicts that it created, especially having failed to extend the depth of intimacy that Catherine wants. As a result, she went further to look for it somewhere. In return, she closes herself off to the husband who is another barrier to intimacy. It is worth mentioning that after Caleb revealed his true nature through the" Love Dare" is also the very time Catherine loved back her husband. However challenges allowed Caleb to show his charitable, caring persona to his wife. This is regarded as the low self-disclosure needed to foster intimacy.

In conclusion, this story that revolves around family drama. Fundamentally, the film tends to illustrate some of the disputes that may lead to marriage breakages. In the Fireproof movie, the couples are entirely subjected to divorce within a short period of time, but the father saves the marriage. Caleb is a dedicated firefighter committed to rescuing people from fire incidences while his wife Catherine is a nurse, but he is more devoted to his work than his wife. Secondly, Caleb is also more addicted to pornography, and this has created enmity between them. And lastly, while Catherine feels neglected and not recognized by the husband, on the other hand, the husband also feels uncomfortable with her complaints and accusations.
