Introduction
An interview with God is a film that invites the audience to the conversation that takes place between Paul Asher, God and the young NYC newspaper reporter that was covering the news about the war in Afghanistan after the Christian faith was shaken. The beginning of the movie started when Paul said that the works of God are mysterious. The rest of the film, however, has contradictions when Paul tried to grasp the mind of God when he requested honest answers as to why humans struggle throughout their lives.
The movie has various provocative themes that share Christian values. Not only does the film focus on the identity of the man but also how faith explores the relationship between Man and God. When the movie is compared with the book, the theme of submitting to God resembles what Paul did after he tried interviewing someone that claimed to be God. The this is a challenge because the book of Apostle advises people to submit to God, and yet in the Movie, the viewer is challenged because no man has ever had a chance to speak to God directly. The theme of heroism, as analyzed in the movie, resembles Paul because of how he encouraged himself to meet with God. This is how the film got its name because Paul was the only character who got a chance to meet his maker.
The goal of the movie is not to anchor itself to any scriptural interpretations that are theologically sophisticated by to establish scenes that were resolved positively by communicating the significance of self-help, hope, and love in a reassuring and comforting way. The film also gives a view of how a personal look at God in a warm way by understanding the stresses of another human being. The flaw of the movie aligns with the words of the book. For instance, page 88 talks about how a person can be self-righteous based on what the Acts of Apostle state. The conversation in the film shows how a Christian uses his faith by providing the fantasy premise that he is God. This also provides a fascinating excursion that when a Christian believes in God, they exercise their Christian belief.
The theme of apparent defeat as analysed in the book is also seen in the movie. During the interview, Asher realized that people began surrounding them to support him since he was undergoing difficult times. Asher also got support from his sister-in-law, the caring neighbour and his boss by encouraging him. Asher was even prayed for so that he could get away from his problems and stress. Asher's character also showed how he got his final confrontation. The outcome of the interview shows that Asher recognized the miracles of forgiveness and healing, which not only happened in his life but also to the people around him. This also left the viewers imagining how the blessing of God can flow through their lives.
The theme of self-realization is shown in the movie by showing that it is not easy to live without God. The film does this by delivering a clear and deep but yet simple thought on how God acts in our lives through his plans. The outcome of the film brings a resolution that no matter the kind of life man lives, they need God to walk with them.
Overall Depiction
'An Interview with God' is a film that confuses the reader because one can only imagine how a human being can talk to God. Interestingly enough is how God turns out to be a man. The film is favourable to Christians because it shows them why they need to trust in God. The challenge in this film is that it is hard for Christians to understand if they are speaking to God. The lesson learned in this film is that we should trust in God with all my heart.
