Introduction
The term religion can be referred to as the collections of beliefs, world views, as well as cultural systems that normally links humanity to an order of existence in society (Cady & Linell, 23). However, several religions have symbols, sacred histories, and narratives that are aimed to explain the real meaning of life as well as its origin (Cady & Linell, 30). On the other hand, globalization can be termed as the intensification of social relations around the world. Globalization has significantly helped the world to become a global village. Lastly, computer science is typically the study of computers and acquiring the essential skills of programming (Cady & Linell, 43). Hence, this particular paper will describe my major discipline, which is computer science, and secondly, describe how religion and globalization intersect with computer science. Also, the paper will analyze the three categories which are most useful in the understanding of the role of religion and globalization to computer science as well as their insight into my position as a member of the globalized communities?
My major discipline is computer science. The discipline is concerned with understanding the underlying principles of computer algorithms and programming, as well as on how to use them effectively to design networks, software, and systems in order to meet the ever-growing needs of people globally. Notably, computer science is regarded as a highly specialized field which is fast-moving hence leading with a constant and high demand for highly skilled computer scientists. Through computer science, I aspire to solve technical problems that directly or indirectly affect the global beliefs, world views, as well as cultural systems that normally link humanity to the world. I am a member of the globalized communities, which are mainly concerned with impacting society with the computer/technological skills through training and mentorships. Secondly, it's my ambition to pursue software engineering in the near future. Being a software engineer will enable me to assist the world in fighting cybercrime security issues, which have since become rampant. Also, through the study of software engineering, I will become an expert who will help society in solving their computer problems. Also, as a software engineer, it will be possible to develop computer software that effectively helps in developing an electronic bible which can be installed and used in smartphones.
Religion, as well as globalization, shares much with computer science (Rowe &Maureen, 29). For instance, globalization is aiding in increasing religious tolerance through the acceptance of various cultures that influence our minds (Rowe &Maureen, 34). Through globalization, technology has significantly been used to promote different cultures and religions. Also, with the use of computer science, globalization has greatly enabled religion to be a culture of pluralism, which is designed to teach mankind the respect of various religions (Rowe &Maureen, 39). Moreover, media and technology normally play a vital role in the spreading of ideas of every religion. This is with the main aim of empowering the society to understand every religion hence choosing the favorable path of their life (Pieterse et al., 21). Also, through the use of a computer, a computer scientist can develop a website that provides opportunities which basically contact with the rest of worldwide hence giving information as well as an explanation about various religions irrespective of the geographical location in order to spread the religious ideas everywhere (Pieterse et al., 24). Lastly, through the use of computers and media, we are capable of learning every religion which impacts and broadens our knowledge (Rowe &Maureen, 29). Thus, in a nutshell, we can conclude that globalization enhances the capacity to tolerate, strengthen, and cherish every religion.
A number of categories of analysis have been constructive in the understanding of religion and globalization in relation to studies and my current job. These issues majorly intend to explore how religion, globalization are connected to computer science. They include culture, technology, and economics (Pieterse et al.,40).
Culture
Typically, religion is described as a subset of culture. Hence, culture itself comprises of languages, shared values, beliefs, and kinship that define the world (Herrington &Luke, 49). Moreover, in the interdisciplinary aspect of religion and globalization, it can be witnessed in the increasing use of computer science in order to bring the religious value through a peaceful way or direct clashes. Also, through the use of computer websites, it has overwhelmingly connected the world and religion (Herrington &Luke, 52). Through beliefs, people may start to have a perception that a number of stories that talk about faith and values are usually told via cultural paradigm. For example, in Mexico, "our lady of Guadalupe" usually aids in the provision of cultural context specific to the divine miracles (Herrington &Luke, 55). However, in Europe, "Medjugorje" normally provided equitable context. Similarly, among the native religious traditions and Buddhism basically do have common religious themes that get retold specifically within the cultural context to instill the understanding as well as the meaning (Campbell &Horace, 41).
Technology
Information technology, within the scope of religious globalization, has had an influence more so on major roles, such as in how as well as to whom the religion and its doctrine extends (Campbell &Horace, 46). Through computer science, the use of technology has significantly improved human civilization. However, historically, it can be stated that human civilization was without religion; hence it totally had no purpose to create a single one (Campbell &Horace, 51). Moreover, until the digital era, it was vital in creating a universal form of living and thinking, which was a result of the ever-growing need to limit and manipulate the minds as well as the hearts of people all over the world. In the current world, where information is power and its readily available to even the local areas of the world, religion has adopted and implement the use of technology upon religion (Cleveland et al., 45). For instance, we now have projectors which can be used in churches for service, use of DVD version of the bible, use of electronic bible which has made the church services to be more entertaining and lively unlike before the introduction of computer (Cleveland et al., 48).
Economics
The economy is a major influencer that drives the market places of various countries as well as the global market. In the last three decades, the global economy has increasingly expanded worldwide, unlike the rest of the time (Rowe &Maureen, 29). However, it's believed that this tremendous economic growth has been a result of the incorporation of the internet in businesses. Moreover, religion and economy are also closely tied evidently. Due to the economic growth in major nations of the world, it has led to the growth of the religions to become more financially stable since it members have gained more wealth and are capable of contributing a good amount of money to finance the needs of the religion as well as its growth and development (Campbell &Horace, 41).
A number of these interdisciplinary issues have had a massive insight into my position as a globalized member. For instance, through culture, I have been able to peacefully interact with different people from different walks of life, hence business activities, as well as propelling my career to the next high level. Also, culture has had a great impact on my leadership skills. I have been able to lead a group of my member teams with great enthusiasm, thus achieving our set goals. Moreover, I have learned different values from different people and their respective beliefs.
Secondly, technology has been very insightful in my position as a global member. For instance, through the use internet, communication has been easy between respective leaders and the members. Also, technology has been vital since a number of our mentorships, as well as training, have been conducted through the use of e-learning criteria. These have significantly improved the learning ability of many members.
Conclusion
In summary, my major discipline is computer science. The discipline is concerned with understanding the underlying principles of computer algorithms and programming, as well as on how to use them effectively to design networks, software, and systems in order to meet the ever-growing needs of people globally. Notably, globalization and religion intersect with computer science in different ways; for instance, the use of computer science, globalization has greatly enabled religion to be a culture of pluralism, which is designed to teach mankind the respect of various religions. Lastly, culture, economics, and technology are some of the category analysis that has been important in understanding religion and globalization.
