Research means the pursuit of existing facts by carrying out studies, observations, comparisons as well as experimenting processes. Research methods, for instance, refer to the ways data will be attained. Some of the research methods, in this case, are experimental and surveying. Experimental is a research method involving the manipulation of one given variable to determine the change it induces on another variable. It depends on the methods that are controlled, manipulation of variables and random assignment used in testing a hypothesis. On the other hand, the survey method refers to the process of collecting information from individuals through interviews and questionnaires concerning a particular topic. These two method has similarities as well as differences in comparison to each other as used in the collection of data.
These methods share common aspects which include, expenditure of time; time is an essential requirement used both in carrying out surveying and carrying out experiments. It is also important to consider that these methods are data-oriented. The ultimate goal for using the individual method is getting data to be analyzed at long last. Some of the differences include, surveying method is suitable for behavioral and social sciences while the experimental method is suitable to be used mainly in natural and physical sciences. The other comparison between the two methods is that the surveying method employs the use of questionnaires, case study, interviews, and observation where else experimental method uses readings in gathering and collection of data. Surveys involve field research where data is collected by exploring the field while the experimental method of research employs the context of laboratory use in the collection of data. (Creswell, J. W. 2015). The other difference between the two methods is that surveys are performed on the condition of descriptive research while the experimental method is used when the nature of the research is experimental. There are also differences regarding definition; surveys are done basing on the various variability while the experimental method is based on isolated factors used to test the hypothesis.
Surveying can be used in finding information relating to the behaviors, opinions as well as opinions of specific groups of people and questions on socio-demographic factors such as age, sex, income and other information such as ethnic origins among other uses these research tools. The surveys can then be standardized regarding validity and reliability. Experimental research method can be used by the psychologists in the determination of the human behavioral patterns thus understanding the mental stability of a person under study. In this way involving the filed research, psychologists can investigate a group of people and carefully carry out the experimentation exercise. Thus finalizing the analysis of data and coming up with a carefully designed solution.
The goal of collecting the information by use of the experimental method is the attainment of manipulation of the independent variable, in this case, constant such as demographic factors including age and sex this involves the use of observable patterns.
The sampling methods that can be used include systematic method. In this method, individuals can be chosen from the large population group following a specified interval of randomness to a fixed point. Another type of sampling technique that can be employed is pure random. It this method, each member of a subset population has a probability of being chosen. It is accorded to be an honest group of the population. Among all the types of research designed mentioned, the experimental design is perceived to be the best and the most appropriate channel to follow in this study since it has some vital benefits in consideration. (In Agha, et al. 2016)
It is because it provides the psychologists with a high level of control. It is made possible since there is the secure isolation of specific variables thus facilitates easy determination of viability of the outcome. For this case, demographic factors such as age and sex are isolated and studied. It is also appropriate because it leads to the provision of specific conclusions. Because of the high level of control, the results produced are specific and have an element of consistency. It is also relevant because the results developed can be duplicated in this context. It is a straightforward process in a situation whereby other variables in place are controlling the same variables. Also, the experimental method can accommodate a combination with other essential methods thus allowing for the determination of specific demographic or even the entire population while offering the best choices. It is also appropriate since it facilitates determination of cause as well as effect in the research.
Conclusion
From the study, the possible conclusions imply that choice of correct method of research in consideration of necessary parameters such as demographic factors alongside other variables. The study is feasible since there is still research in the future basing on the study of a selected group of individuals in general and thus evaluation of the quantitative design by the psychologists. The hypothesis is also accounted to be measurable since there is a comparison of the qualitative design with the selected subjects based on the demographic makeups in this context.
