Introduction
A study on this subject has taught me that societies are super connected with the world being interlinked through technology. I discovered that some people are not electronically connected especially communities in South Asia and Sub Saharan Africa hence lack access to the internet, electricity, and computers. Around 15 % of the global communities live in areas without regular electricity connectivity. Therefore I discovered this mainly affects communities in poor countries with poor infrastructure.
Despite the entry of cell phones in South Asia and Sub Saharan Africa, I discovered that their usage is still limited. This is associated with limited infrastructure, inconsistencies in service and lack of electricity to charge phones. Technological advancement globally has not impacted on all lives. The statistics I collected indicate that 52 % of the people still don't use the internet. This is attributed to inequality in the availability of the internet, digital and social media and cell phone use. I also learned that other reasons associated with limited use of the internet are social divisions and differences which determine how people go online, adopt and make the connection. Low income, illiteracy and old age are also other factors influencing internet use. I discovered that a quarter of the world's population who are offline are illiterate.
I discovered that internet and technological connectedness reflect our social, economic status, education, race, ethnicity, gender, age and sexual orientation of our physical world. It indicates that the digital world is not different from the offline physical world. Technology has both positive impacts and negative impacts. Integration of the digital world into our social world enables us to solve social concerns, communicate and raise emerging issues in our physical space. Technology has opportunities for social change based on our experiences and future ways of our society. I discovered that online visibility raises awareness on social connectedness and is embedded in every area of our lives including health, cities, cars, home appliances, lighting, lifestyle, heating appliances, and monitoring tools.
The internet is a global network that connects our computers globally. It provides a large platform to spread and share information. Its large integration has made it a part of our human life. Through the web system, we are able to access and share important information through the internet. It has facilitated our communication through social media such as instant messaging. The media provides us with a platform where our information is stored. Technology doesn't allow us to digitize all data.
By living in an environment saturated with technology our lives are affected holistically. Global technological change has enabled us to transmit information easily. On the other side, technology has its own negative impact through increased social crimes. I also discovered that technology cannot work without human intervention. It has enabled us to share information easily and promote health and traveling. It has enabled us to come up with new ways of production. The use of mobile phones and social media has enabled us to established social networks.
Conclusion
Generally, I have learned that technological evolution can be traced back to 150000 and 350000 years. During this time communication was through grunts and gestures and it evolved to formal language in Mesopotamia to 2000s where internet usage was largely adopted worldwide. I learned technological advancements of computing were through initiatives by IBM and Hewlett Packard. These advancements have made communication easier and improved social connectedness. Reading through the subject has taught me that technological advancements are neither bad nor good. They are a trade-off that introduces both advantages and disadvantages in social life.
