Introduction

For a long time now, the issue of sexual disparity, sexual prejudice, and sex discrimination has gotten into the minds of many, creating headlines in many fields. Women and men differ in many ways. Their body structures and several aspects of life tolerance levels vary between the two genders. These differences become vivid based on psychological, biological, or cultural norms. Different cultural backgrounds experience sexual disparities differently. However, all human beings are created equal, and activists believe that equal chances and opportunities should get availed to people of all sexes. The law should not get biased at any level, and the consistent sentencing guidelines must always ensure fair sentences to all offenders. This essay answers whether there should exist consistent punishing guidelines for people committing sex crimes. Also, it explains whether females and juveniles should take the same castigations as their male counterparts.

Sex crimes get rampant daily from time to time, with women suffering the most. Such include sexual harassment or rape cases. In some parts of the world like Jamaica, women getting raped cases get so common (Bourne, Hudson-Davis, Sharpe-Pryce, Francis, Solan & Nelson, 2015). Although some males experience the same assaults, such cases are so rare. The act of engaging someone in sexual activity without their willingness is inhuman and demeaning to the victim. It takes away the innocence of the victim, getting them too embarrassed that some even end up committing suicide. Today, there exist several diseases related to sexual activities. Therefore, some victims of sex crimes potentially face the danger of contracting these dangerous illnesses. Unwanted pregnancies may also arise from abusing a woman sexually. In some cases, the genital organs of some victims get severely damaged. The psychological harm and trauma that sexually abused victims are left to suffer is a considerable burden to them, especially young school girls faced with the dilemma and embarrassment they are likely to encounter at school.

Any person committing a sex crime should get severely judged and reprimanded. First of all, the person violates the privacy of the victim they assaulted. Every person walking the earth got their rights and privileges. The damages a sexually assaulted victim suffers physically and emotionally go far beyond the understanding of the person perpetrating the crime. Or at least the criminal lost their humanity. In the worst cases, older men assault children sexually. That is so unacceptable and unethical. Religiously, these sexual crimes get heavily criticized, and their perpetrators shunned from their religious groupings. Due to this, these criminals should get severe judgments and face severe punishments for the crimes they commit. The harsh sentencing serves as a warning to any other person out there wishing to follow the same routine of committing such crimes. Only through this punishing can these criminal acts get curbed and regulated.

Another issue arises by asking whether the sentencing should get done on the same level depending on the gender or age of the offenders (Scurich & Monahan, 2016). Ethically, any person capable of committing a certain level of crime is capable of handling the consequences that come with the crime. Religiously, all sins get judged equally by God. There isn't the consideration of how female, or male, or young the offender is. After Cain killed his brother Abel, God did not consider the ages involved or the family ties involved (Robbins, 2016). Cain got punished accordingly. Today, there exist rehabilitation and holding centers for juveniles involved in certain criminal activities as their ages do not suit them in maximum security centers. The law always means to get justice to the offended person. Also, it serves a lesson to any person wishing to continue engaging in criminal activities as a warning that they, too, once caught, will follow the same strict reprimand.

Approaching the issue by law, some consideration factors should get implemented. However, the sentencing laws applied should remain as per the capacity of crimes committed. If a female offender gets arrested for murder crimes, and she gets judged guilty of the crime, then the full force of the law applies to her (Doerner & Demuth, 2014). The law does not apply differently to people of different genders. If a juvenile deliberately involves high levels criminal acts like murder or manslaughter or robbery with violence, then they should bear the full consequences of their crimes. Placing heavy punishments on lawbreakers because they are males is unconstitutional and should not get implemented in any law enforcing institution. Therefore, the law should not discriminate based on gender or the ages of the criminals (Doerner & Demuth, 2014).

Conclusion

In conclusion, matters about law and judgment must follow strict and consequent guidelines. When a human being commits a certain level of crime, their conscience at the moment is into the act. Therefore, the same law flouters should be able to bear the consequences of the actions or sins they commit. The law must ensure justice to all at all times. On this accord, the law enactors must ensure that proper judgment and sentencing is passed to deliberate lawbreakers no matter their gender or age. However, some amendments to the issue would get proposed. For issues about age, governments would set up holding facilities for young offenders. The prison environment is a nasty one, and not many survive the hardships and torture faced in most prisons today. Therefore, setups for juveniles would be a big step to ensure that these young lawbreakers get justice too.
