As a result of globalization, there has been the underside shadow part of it, which keeps developing, especially in this era of technological advancement. Naim, therefore, conducts an in-depth investigation concerning the effects of underside globalization upon the political, economic, and government structures across the globe. It is essential to understand that with the improving technology in the present date, there is the corresponding sophistication of the criminal activities. The investigation, besides explores why it might be challenging to deal with the crime in the present times, as well as the various connections that exist among the crime categories. It is, however, disappointing to understand that within the sophisticated nature of the connections among the criminal classifications, there is the relationship that exists between crime and the institutions mentioned above. Following illicit activities, crime can be looked at through various perspectives, and that is the reason some crimes get the chance to pass unnoticed. In the sense of the global market and the international economy, there are several illicit activities which take place and in a wide span, starting with illegal migration, weapons, drugs, making counterfeits of products as well as human trafficking. The constant reason for the existence of crime is gaining power and making profits at whatever costs involved. Therefore, in the situation where the dealers in such businesses need to lay low to avoid exposure, then they will do that, thus making it even harder for the authorities to cope with the situation. The following analysis aims at discovering the effects of global criminality as well as the obsession with crime upon the developing world through Naim quotes and other sources.
The concept of globalization, according to Naim, links everything into a joint package with the aspects of licit and illicit being conjoined. This is mostly a result of individuals or groups trying to acquire domination and power over institutions and governments and, at the same time, trying to gain as much relative profit (Tauri, Juan Marcellus, 2016. 46-67). The concept of globalization has been described in the case of Pablo Escobar as the making of the present boundaries irrelevant as a result of the tight global politics, economy, environment, and culture. Some flaws are involved, and as a result, there are new opportunities for criminal activities to take place. Other factors that are included in the sustenance of global crime are greed and corruption. There is the ability of criminals to take part in the appearance and disappearance acts within a country or region dominated by the above factors. In the case that the above factors affect the government and authorities, then the thriving conditions for crime will be improved. The extent to which the shadow part of globalization affects the various sectors is unmeasurable, which makes it even harder to do away with it altogether. It is essential to understand that the aspect of globalization involves quite a significant number of relationships, interactions, and processes that work simultaneously. There are also various characteristics of globalization in the current times, and among them are illicit activities that involve smuggling and trafficking people and goods. The producers are incorporating both illegal and legal activities within a single spec, which leaves a gap of the question; how do you separate the two (Kassab, Hanna Samir, and Jonathan D. Rosen, 2018. 11-14). In the above sense, confusion among the two has resulted in the cultural consequences across the globe, which in turn bears bitter results to the evolving world.
As a result of the massive aspect of global crime, there are significant results of the black market, which brings much harm to the governments and world market. Through the large international organizations, groups as well as individuals, there are big profits created which are then used to strengthen the power of shadow globalization and, at the same time, create the opportunity to engage in new investments. Similarly, through the trafficking of drugs and weapons illegally, the terrorists can gain financial stability to facilitate their activities and hence being able to take over governments. Therefore there is a greater need to control illicit activities, but at the same time, that comes at a very high cost (Kassab, Hanna Samir, and Jonathan D. Rosen, 2019. 19-40). As mentioned previously, the current characteristic of globalization has left a chance of greed and corruption to the domination of criminal activities. Some influential figures in the global society are part of the dark world and are responsible for the crime facilitation.
It is hard to keep track of the criminals, who, as a result, earn the ability to dwell in some areas of the globe. Dealing with such might be quite a challenge for international bodies and originations dedicated to fighting crime with the assistance of various government bodies (Andreas, Peter. 2019, 485-491). Controlling the global crime rates will help reduce the disastrous results on the worldwide market and worse consequences to various governments, as is with the case of terrorism. When alone to do as they please, then the shadow globalization might grow bigger and worse. According to Richard Friman, the concept of crime should not then be considered as the underside of globalization. Instead, the idea should be assumed to be just an element of the general process taking place. As so, money laundering, which is a big player in crime, should be put under control to deal with the other aspects of crime. The above issue of money laundering also falls among the five wars of globalization by Naim. In addition to laundering, there are aspects of illegal immigration, weapon trafficking, drugs, and the development of counterfeit products (Beare, MargaretE, 2017. 8-12). There is a high probability of developing wars among countries and terrorists, damaging the global economy and market and, at the same time, an increase in financial instability across many governments. Besides, the social aspect of the globe is directly affected by the involvement of globalization wars.
Conclusion
In conclusion, the above analysis focuses on the effects of crime across the globe and the domination of obsession towards crime. Through the investigation, it is evident that the aspect of crime flows with globalization, especially in the current times, which are dominated by the presence of technology. As a result, the domination of international organizations and individuals increase. On the other hand, the analysis highlights that with the presence of obsession in terms of greed and corruption, there is the relative promotion of crime within the regions. Therefore, despite the responsibility of containing offense in the different forms by Naim and other authors being challenging, there is a greater need to keep such activities under control to avoid the resultant effects.
