Essay Sample on Ethical Issues in Instructional Design: Comparing What We Know

Paper Type:  Essay

Introduction

My instructional design was to consider different issues which help in comparing what we know to the areas that require further exploration. Some of the ethical issues include copyrights, web accessibility, confidentiality, and diversity and inequality. Whenever learning institutions reuse and reorganize the learning content, they tend to get involved in ethical breaches such as taking one's credit consciously and getting involved in high-tech intellectual crimes (Marchetti & Cullen, 2016). Also, confidentiality should be taken seriously due to the expansion and continuous growth information technology. Privacy helps in protecting one's' rights and controlling their data. Therefore, in design, learners might experience confidentiality issues whenever they feel that their online resources are getting tracked through the expertise locators.

How to Design or Set Up the Course to Meet the Needs of Diverse Learners?

The students can meet as a team to engage in reading and learning from the individualized education programs (IEP). Through this strategy, the students and the educator can discuss the goals, modifications and various techniques which helped every student in their past. Also, developing a spreadsheet that indicates the students' reading levels can help in using different resources at every level, thus promoting understanding (Marchetti & Cullen, 2016). The worksheet might also help in differentiating texts and having a conversation with individuals concerning their learning.

How to Incorporate Multimodal Activities at the Stages of Representation, Expression, and Engagement?

The combination of audio, visuals, linguistic or alphabetic texts can be combined to support the multimodal literacy. The students can be taught the multimodal analysis as it provides them with accessibility to a sophisticated way of reading and the texts they face. Through the multimodal analysis, students can think critically concerning the messages they encounter through social media. Also, providing the students with shared languages can allow them in deepening their multimodal analysis. Therefore, communication that is appropriate to a specific field can be shared with other students during the classroom discussion, thus promoting understanding at different stages.

How Would You Plan for and Respond to Ethical, Legal and Political Consequences of Your Design Decisions?

I would develop the facts concerning the situation at hand, thus helping me to decide if the case involves the ethical or legal issues. Also, identification of the possible consequences and options will help in evaluation, choosing the proper choices and implementation of decisions made.

What Design Implications Would You Implement to Integrate Multiculturalism in this Technology Course for Future Teachers?

I would attempt to learn the students' backgrounds as it is helpful for the first generation of immigrants. One can decide to learn their language as it promotes understanding in classrooms. Also, including different books in the classroom book collection is a proper way to introduce multiculturalism among students. Therefore, the use of different books helps students to have a chance of learning new things from what they usually know.

What Questions Would You Ask in a Learner Analysis to Ensure that You Collected Information Regarding Culture and Physical/Cognitive Impairments?

Who has challenges in expressing oneself during conversations? This question will help me to find out individuals with the functional limitations in motor skills.

What are the effects of diversification in a society? This question will help me in understanding how different learners view cultural diversification in a community.

What Strategies Would You Use to Meet the Needs of a Diverse Population: Culturally, Economically, Educationally, and Otherwise?

I would create a team that can assist in decisions making since people possess different ideas that help in meeting the needs of people. Also, promoting flexibility during the planning and implementation of tasks will act as a motivation factor to people. This act will help in addressing the needs of every person without discrimination.

What are the Challenges in Implementing Strategies of the Multimodal Diversity Model?

The use of different languages might hinder the implementation of strategies in a multimodal diversity model since people do not get to understand each other. The use of a similar language will ease communication, thus allowing faster decision making in planning and implementation. Also, the students' memories and physical states act as a distraction which hinders the application of specific techniques. Some of the internal distractions include uncomfortable chairs, hunger, and peers (Marchetti & Cullen, 2016).
