Game of Thrones is a series by HBO telling the story of a country faced by civil war. The series premiered in 2011. The series gets set in Essos and Westeros, which are fictional continents. The "iron throne" is the reason for the civil war, as it is the seat of the king who rules the seven kingdoms. The current paper is a character evolution of Daenerys Targaryen, also known as Dany, the main character. Daenerys started as a pitiful pawn that gets used by men surrounding her; after marrying Khal Drogo, Daenerys turns into a fierce woman, who becomes a queen who attracts many followers and devotees kingdoms.
At the beginning of the first season, Daenerys Targaryen, together with another character named john snow, are shown as weak people but untapped potential. Similar to john snow, Dany was also a bastard. Her father, who was the king of the seven kingdoms, was overthrown and killed (Syedain, Alishah, and Sangeeta Pandey 1874). Dany, together with her brother Viserys were then exiled into another land. In the beginning, Dany is seen as a pawn, whereby her brother torments her and wants to get to the throne by marrying her off to Khal Drogo.
After Daenerys has married Khal Drogo in the first season, the dragon spirit inside her starts revealing itself (Syedain et al. 1875). The audience gets a slight idea of how Dany would turn out after watching her brother die in the hands of her husband. This becomes the beginning of the new look of Dany. At the end of the first season, we see Dany walking into a pyre full of fire, whereby she comes out as the mother of dragons.
In the second season, Daenerys becomes the dragons (Syedain et al., 1877). In this season, Dany tries to come into terms with the new power that she had acquired. In this season also, Dany loses a lot as she loses her husband and child. After the loss, she becomes the new ruler of the kingdom, whereby she faces some opposition from men. She defeats the men as she has already become a strong woman.
In season three, the audience now has a good picture of the transformed Dany from the first time she introduced them. She tricks masters into handing over their slaves to her (Syedain et al. 1878). She flees the Astapor slaves, who decide to follow her and become her army. The army shapes her future in the series. The third season wins her the title “the breaker of chains” due to fleeing slaves.
In season 4, the audience sees Dany heading to Mereen, where she flees the remaining slaves. However, Dany does not yet know that the city of Mereen was her most significant victory ground and her biggest defeat ground (Terres and Mariana). In Mereen, Dany shows her power and strengthens her title “the breaker of chains” by crucifying 163 Mereen masters. After Dany has formed a strong army, the audience gets an idea of the type of leader that Dany would later become.
Having three dragons and a large army, Dany becomes a strong force to destroy anyone who tries to oppose her. Throughout the other seasons, Dany attempts to become a ruler over people who will love her, but that seems not to be true (Terres and Mariana). She understands that she has to learn how to rule, as it is not an easy job as she thought.
In season six, Dany finds herself in a place similar to where she started. She becomes a slave under a new Khalasar (Terres and Mariana). Additionally, she finds herself in a bid to satisfy men's desires. However, unlike season one, this time around, she is no longer submissive and naĂŻve as the dragon inside her has already arisen (Terres and Mariana). Dany is reborn and passes through fire for a second time, and this time, she is confident of her fate, which was her seat as the rightful ruler.
