Introduction
For quite some time now, bullying has become one of the significant problems teenagers have been facing in learning institutions, particularly in High school. Sadly, many of these cases have been happening without the Teachers, parents or workers in schools knowing. For that reason, many teens have been forced to deal with the situation, and it has been estimated that twenty- eight percent of teenagers in grade six have fall victims of bullying. It seems teachers have taken the occurrence of harassment in the institutions lightly. On the other hand, Prosocial behavior among some teenagers has prevented many children and young adults from experiencing the humiliating act of bullying. The reasons as to why some children and young adults end up bullying is because one, they have little tendency in putting up with frustration and trouble understanding other people behaviors and see them as being provocative. Some studies have shown that the child upbringing may weaken his or her social and emotional development thereby end up being a bully. Lack of good role models may also be one of the factors as to why these young adults and children become bullies. In contrary to this, pro-social behavior among some children or young adults seems to have developed since their early infancy, and it mostly because of good parenting. It has been studied that parents who do not restrict their children from playing with their friends play an essential role in helping their children to learn from each other and thus creating some good relations. Another reason why some individual posses pro-social behavior, is genetic characteristics, some people have inherited their relatives' nature of helping other individuals. Consequently, schools should establish strict rules that would prevent bullying in schools from happening and severely punish those who are found guilty.
To reduce the occurrence of bullying at an institutional level, schools need to define what bullying is clearly. However, it should not be confused with teasing because teasing is all about irritating another person with constant displeasures. The schools should link all forms of humiliation which includes threats, pushing, physical violence, name calling, abuses and even teasing with maltreatment with time, this will gradually decrease the rate of bullying in the institutions. For bullying to end in schools, teachers should avoid being judgmental at all cost, and therefore when a case of harassment is reported, it is advisable that the person handling the case to listen to both sides of the story. The teacher should not call the accused a bully because the circumstances at which made the student act inappropriately are not known. However, the accused or rather the bully needs to be told about the dangers of his or her actions and the consequences of the unfortunate behavior. Learning institutions should also consider reward students who practice positive behaviors, for that reason, students will strive to exhibit appropriate characters thus minimizing bullying in schools. At an individual level, children and young adults should learn to understand the characteristics of different other individuals and avoid taking advantage of their weaknesses.
Conclusion
I helped one of my friends from being harassed, and it was a very emotional moment that I would never forget. It happened when I went to the washroom and heard someone being asked questions that sounded very intimidating when I moved closer, I saw my friend being pushed against the washroom doors, and his books were thrown on the floor by two senior students. At first, I wanted to confront the situation by going to fight them, but I kept my calm while trying to figure out what to do next. Suddenly I found myself screaming and luckily the senior students ran away. I went to my friend picked up all his books, and we walked outside, I felt delighted after what I did to my friend.
