Introduction
Gospel is Christian music characterized by rhythmic choruses and vibrant vocals. Poignant messages regarding ultimate triumph, sacrifice ad endurance speak to humankind's resilience. Most artists in this genre teach, inspire as well as uplights listeners. However, to develop talent and become an exceptional gospel, one has to have combined impeccable vocals based on stirring lyrics. According to the gospel, music is about using songs to convey a personal story. As a result, to be a good gospel singer, one must have a belief behind everything that he or she sings, regardless of whether he or she is a Christian or not. Notably, most gospel music is characterized by the theme of peace or love, or the need to become a person. This paper focuses on examining successful gospel singers and what it takes to be one.
Across the world, gospel music has spread to higher heights making it o of the best piece among Christians ad non-Christians. However, in most cases, gospel singers are usually men and women of God who are playing god instruments. But for one to become an explicit gospel singer, he or she sings the song as you'd say it. According to Greschner (246), gospel sounds mirror speech and acts like a way through which one speaks to the audience personally. Therefore for one to be a gospel singer, he or she must think about singing the song in the same way the one would speak it if he or she were passionate. Similarly, one can also watch YouTube clips to see how different gospel singers express themselves and try to imitate that in front of the mirror. Practice in front of the mirror allows one to evaluate how his or her mouth is moving while singing. Because the power in gospel is words, one got to get them clearly amidst numerous exaggerations. Moving one's mouth, a little bit means you are not singing correctly.
Additionally, practicing a functional and bright tone is a necessity for one to become a good gospel singer. According to Hil (132), brightness, which is the equivalent to one's upper stereo frequencies gives the singer clarity and presence as well as makes the song better. In most cases, the gospel uses different tones but has the needed presence. Therefore, singing brightly means the song is going to make more sense and impression to the listeners. If the singer gets a brighter tone, he or she must think of singing forward, in front of his or her face, to ensure that the frontal resonance in his or her mouth and nose are adversely engaged. However, to complement the rendition and make the song more explicit, working on big notes is necessary. For instance, a gospel singer can incorporate many robust and high notes. This can help people who are trying to yell, which is regarded as for voice, leading to weak sound and loses the incepted climax or tempo. The best way to develop your high tone is by adapting to the croaky voice daily and every morning. It is also advisable to use your hands in feeling the vibration in your vocal cords, but remember to remain relaxed throughout. However, in the croaky voice, singing from the bottom of the range and stretching towards the top and back again makes the song impeccable and the best way to avoid other imbalances.
Moreover, breathing a lot is necessary to become an excellent gospel singer. Gospel singers must breathe more as compared to vocalists working in a different style. Therefore, it is essential to develop a full breath always and as possible as one can, as opposed to making it as in classical singing. The synchrony that is needed in gospel music requires proper balance or breath, and singers use up the capacity of the inspiration in all the phrases. It is, therefore, essential for one who intends to be a gospel singer to develop a proper intake of large amounts of breath at all times. The appropriate balance of breath enables one to sing songs that one feels because of the precision, which is always an integral component in all gospel songs (Garagulya, Nikitina, and Atitsogbui 112). All gospel music is meant to be felt by all listeners, and the feeling should be developed through a balanced vocal and reduction of ability to influence the audience.
Conclusion
In conclusion, gospel music is a musical genre characterized by vibrant voices and poignant messages about endurance, sacrifice, and ultimate triumph about the resilience of humankind. Across the world, numerous artists such as KiKi Sheard and Kirk Franklin, among others, have been celebrated as the best gospel singers of all time. However, their rise to a position that most people must embrace is linked with proper training with formal vocal coaches who can harmonize songs. Besides, practicing a functional and bright tone and working on individual big notes is essential for one to be a good gospel singer. Brightness allows one to have exceptional clarity of the sounds that are essential for making an impression.
