Mission Statements of the Organizations
The mission statement of the City of Grand Rapids is to elevate life quality through great city service. On the other hand, the mission statement of Google Corporation is organizing information of the world and making it universally useful and accessible. United Way's mission statement is improving the lives of individuals through the mobilization of communities caring power in the world in advancing the common good.
Strategic Management Practices
Google Corporation
First, Google has established a distinctive corporate culture that has been able to attract individuals from famous colleges globally (Tran, 2017). The management practice has enabled it to attract talented individuals that influence its performance. Another practice is establishing a stimulating working environment that enhances innovation and creativity (Tran, 2017). Thus, the firm has been successful in developing a brand of creative work. The company's predominant culture also has enhanced its strategic management practices.
City of Grand Rapids, Michigan
The City of Grand Rapids, Michigan, uses different strategic management practices in enhancing its operations. First, it acts with transparency and integrity in being responsible for what it says and works in teams with others (The city of Grand Rapid, 2019). It also serves the people who work, visit, or live in the city professionally by providing quality services. Apart from the different strategies, it challenges the way things were done previously in fulfilling community needs by providing new ways of serving customers.
United Way Organization
The main strategic management practiced by the organization is talent. Talent is the heart of the organization's ability to driving change, accelerating quality, and pacing its transformation (United Way, 2012). Therefore, it has implemented a network-wide strategy of managing talent as it is the only way of executing the company's business goals and strategies. The practice is achieved through the five strategic pillars, including positioning it as a mission of choice, adopting and committing core competencies, leveraging relationships, enhancing diversity, and instilling succession planning need (United Way, 2012).
Recommendations Regarding Effective Strategies and Best Practices in Strategic Management
The first strategy that an organization should use is stretching the goals of the organization, which enhances out of the box thinking (TRU Group, n.d). Even though most companies utilize different parameters, they all set the required targets from the business. Also, having a continuous improvement is recommended as it helps in guiding the planning process of an organization. Another strategy is considering the business environment as an ecosystem as it is an essential analogy when it comes to thinking concerning strategic planning (TRU Group, n.d). Other important strategies that can be used by an organization for efficient management include increasing the market share by about 15%, reducing high and overhead costs in the organization, and making the services provided to the customers more responsive. Moreover, other effective strategies in strategic management include pulling together a significant group of people, providing time for strategic thinking, getting a commitment from important people in the organization, and providing the chance of free and open discussions irrespective of an individual's position in an organization. The different strategies will help an organization greatly improve its performance.
