Introduction
In the media industry, there is no luck, and this is because there is a wide array of careers for individuals prospecting to venture in the industry. Video production itself is a composition of various activities, and this explains why Stephen Reynolds asserts that one has to be at the right place, in the media industry, to achieve success (Tedx 2016, p. 2). Stephen Reynolds made a debut, as a film producer, when he successfully produced the Vendetta. Video production and promotion is a set of activities stretching from the making of the vide to its marketing processes (Why Hohm 2019, p. 2). To this end, video production revolves around the creation of the video, and this is then followed by its marketing.
Camera Recording and Editing
The recording of the video clips and the scenes is a crucial part of video production, and thus, it is a career opportunity because individuals make both ends meet courtesy of this job (Careers in the Media 2019, p. 10). Camera recording, or rather, video recording also entails a variety of activities from which careers arise. For instance, there is an analysis of the videos, and this is to ensure that whatever content is capture makes sense and is pertinent to the primary goal (O'Neill 2012, p. 98). Thus, the role played by the video recorder is not only capturing clips, but also analysis. Even though it may seem to be a simple work, it demands a lot of resources. For instance, Stephen Reynolds shot the Vendetta for $100, 000 for 18 days (Careers in the Media 2019, p. 10).
Video recording is normally random, and this necessitates arrangement and organization of the clips in a fascinating manner. This creates an opportunity, video editing. The rationale behind video editing is to logically and structurally arrange the clips and shots to make sense of the audience (Dancyger 2014, p. 361). Video editing is a remedy to the problems associated with video recording in which an improper recording of clips is a significant cause.
Directing
Video directors are the heads of the production team. Typically, the construct the technical teams involved in the creation of the video content as well as the characters taking part in the production processes (Birmingham Updates 2019, p. 4). In most cases, they facilitate the preparation of the film production processes. This involves the selection of costumes worn by characters, the technology used in the whole film production process, and issuing special instruction facilitating successful film production.
Script Writing
The development of scripts is a crucial aspect in video production as well as any other item in the media industry. Stephen Reynolds spent much time writing many scripts, an activity he began at ten years old, and it paid off when he finally made a debut in the film industry when he successfully released the Vendetta (Careers in the Media 2019, p. 10). Technically, scriptwriting outlines the plot, dialogue, audio as well as visual aspects of the content produced by the media. These are the tools used to tell stories in the media, and thus, its importance creates a career opportunity for talented and creative writers.
Portfolio Artefacts
Written Film Reviews
In media arts, various portfolio artifacts can be used to describe one's career. In my career, written film reviews are one of the significant artifacts I have succeeded in completing. Professionally, I have drawn several well-balanced syntheses, both thematic and technical analysis of various films. Even though much of these reviews have been personal opinions about the films, I maintained default anatomy in the analysis. In most cases, the reviews would begin with an introduction that incorporates contextual information as well as its background. This is then followed by a thesis statement, and the film's plot summary (Blaus & Baruk 2010, p. 432). The significance of the thesis statement is pre-empting the scope of the film, or rather, the themes under which the film is based. The next step is the critical analysis in which a discussion of the themes, plot as well as characters is the focal point. I take this process while citing various evidence from the film.
Script for an Advert
Scripts written for advertisements are short pieces of information on particular products and services, application of professionalism, when developing advert scripts, helps in evading plagiarism. I achieve this through the use of special effects, unique musical introductions as well as local taglines that are specific to the item being advertised (O'guinn, Allen & Semenik 2011, p. 395). Much caution is necessary, and this is to ensure that the number of words written for the advert matches the time allocated for it. For instance, it is not prudent to write a long script that supersedes the amount of time the advert should last, and the reverse is true. Also, the script should be written by the description of the product. This is significant because delivering accurate information is key, especially in advertisements. Delivering wrong or false information through adverts will naturally drive away customers.
Audio Project
In the media industry, media arts exploit various audio parameters to pursue the attention of the audience. Thus, much of the attention is given to works through which many individuals can listen to and hear. A typical example of this is a discussion. In most cases, discussions are based on trending topics as well as factors affecting the lives of the audience (Duggan 2008, p. 150). Thus, to draw much attention from a large audience, basing the discussions in matters that severely affect their lives is crucial. For instance, matters relating to politics and leadership is a fundamental subject, and this is because every individual has an interest. The same case applies to the development of podcasts and audio monologues. The two will engage the audience in a listening process as they strive to get the information being delivered. Even so, I would participate in a live audio project in which I would read a script on a live radio session.
Video Project
Video projects are more or less similar to audio projects with the exception that they can exist in various forms in which visual effects are incorporated. The simplest way of obtaining a video item is embedding a video or motion pictures to an audio file to achieve a video. An excellent example of a video project is a short documentary that can med made out of an interview (Ritchie 2013, p. 148). Normally, documentaries are non-fictional motion pictures documenting, or rather, recording various aspects of reality, and are majorly intended for instructional or educational purposes. To this end, I would aim at obtaining accurate information, especially through interrogating credible sources such as individuals. I would record the interviews and later broadcast them for the public.
Personal Development Planning
Exceptional and Quality Media Content Development
As in individual prospecting to soar the greater heights of the media profession, my primary objective is to excel in the production of various contents of the media items. Quality and exceptional development of media content is the sure way of earning credit, reputation, and referrals, and this will enhance the development of my career. A typical way through which I will achieve this is actively taking part in the development of media items such as audio and visual contents in which live participation is key (Duggan 2008, p. 150). Again, discipline and professionalism is also a strategy through which these goals and objectives are achieved.
Confidence and Self-esteem
The media industry is occupied and dominated by icons and established personalities. Normally, this scares individuals who are prospecting venturing in the industry. Therefore, I would develop self-esteem and confidence that I will eventually break evens, one way or another. However, the journey towards attaining self-esteem and confidence has to be well-thought-out, and this is because of the stiff competition that will also arise from media personalities. One of the most significant ways through which I would build the confidence, in myself as well as the market is through developing free samples of excellently written film reviews. It is through concise and accurate reviews that I will attract the attention of media fans as well as investors who would partner with me as I pursue excellence in my career (Blaus & Baruk 2010, p. 432). The essence of this is because a large pool of fans, as well as supporting investors are also a source of motivation and this, amounts to developed self-esteem and confidence. High levels of self-esteem and confidence are also important as they will energize the course of my career, especially in competing rivals.
Proactivity
The quality of proactivity is yet another product of the need for efficiency and stiff competition in the industry. However, it still amounts to personal development, and this is because it stimulates competence. For instance, the aspect of change orientation, as a product of proactivity, will help in the development of contemporary adverts that outdo the traditional presentations (O'guinn, Allen & Semenik 2011, p. 395). The net effect of this is competitiveness, and this will drive clients down my sales' funnel. Again, proactivity will trigger the self-initiated discipline, and this will enable me to handle my clients with sheer professionalism. These are fundamental personal development that will drive my success in the industry.
Conclusion
The media industry is quite complex, and this is a function of stiff competition as well as dominance by well-established media personalities. Thus, to succeed, there is a need to spot and perfect a single career opportunity. This is then followed by personal development to drive professionalism. The essence of professionalism and personal development is career development and market penetration. To this end, I will develop high-end portfolio artifacts to sell my business, and this is because the exceptional presentation is key in a marketing career or business.
