Sharing of information and dealing with challenges of life are largely determined by family hierarchies and alignments. The issue of hierarchy can be seen in the relationship between Jane's mother on one hand and that of Alba on the other. Jane regards her mother with authority and their interactions are formal in that private issues are rarely shared. Such relationship makes Jane struggle to explain this to her mother about the pregnancy. Conversely, Jane respects her grandmother highly but shares some of the most private issues of her life. They both share their love experiences with ease and discuss life issues openly.

The relationship dynamics in Jane's family are both healthy and unhealthy. When Jane does not gather enough courage to face the mother, it becomes unhealthy as it denies the daughter and opportunity to share her troubles with her parent. Assuming that Alba was not around, the inability to share her challenges could cause psychological issues which may in turn affect individual health negatively.
