Authoritative parenting is the type of parenting where parents set reasonable rules for their children and then they discuss it with their children make them understand the reasoning behind those rules. It is characterized by high responsiveness and high demandingness. It is the parenting style that seems to be democratic. This iAuthoritative parents s because they use reason reason with their children when setting their rules and are willing to negotiate with their children if the children's objections are reasonable enough.enough. This type of parenting gives children an opportunity to differentiate right from wrong without emotions being involved (Larzelere,2012)To implement this, parents need to have excellentgood communication with their kids. This is because, in authoritative parenting, parents need to consult their childrenkids after making rules to make sure that the childrenkids understand the rules. For this type of parenting to work children Kids need to be able to openly communicate openly with their parents for this type of parenting to work. With good communication, childrenkids will openly express their objections to certain rules in a better way.
Authoritative parents should praise and criticize their kids when need be. Authoritarianbe. Authoritarian parents criticize their childrenkids very harshly for example, by yelling, and they do not give credit when needed. On the other hand, aContrary to authoritarian parents,n authoritative parent will criticize wisely and most importantly, give credit where necessary as a way of motivation. Aanother strategy is that authoritative parents should be involved in their children's lives. This way the Pparents will know the strengths and weaknesses of their children and therefore put this into consideration when setting rules to be followed by the kids.
Children brought up by authoritative parents are more likely to perform better in school thant those raised brought up by other parenting styles. Adolescents with a good relationship with their parents also tent to have a good relationship with their peers. ItThis reduces the rate of depression among the youth. An authoritative parenting style during adolescence may be viewed as one force that protects against the development of depression in adolescence and emerging adulthood(Joan, 2010). Parents who use authoritative parenting styles improve the self-esteem of their children. The children are also more likely to become more self-dependent.
