Color is a science on its own and is an essential element that interior designers must comprehend. It can define unity, create mood, and modify the perception of individuals. Color is vital in an environment as it produces an array of psychological impacts, such as stimulation and relaxation hence influencing the mood and behavior of people (Kopec, 2018). Interior designers should understand various aspects associated with distinct colors and only select shades that mirror the dweller's psychological needs. Also, the choice of color should reflect features, comprising intensity, hue, and value (Swanson, 2010). For instance, in Roost East Market hotel, the bright and dark colors aid in regulating the lighting of the room as most of the space in the hotel is white, thus establishing an ample perception space. Lighting aids in creating the style and functionality of the space as it offers excellent room illumination. Natural light highlights the visual factors of the area, particularly on reflective surfaces.
Pattern
The strategic grouping of colors creates a profile that reflects the psychological necessities of human beings. Wall arts facilitate a smooth transition and consistency in a specific space. Patterns comprise attractive and repetitive designs on beautiful surfaces (Jacoby, 2018). They give a particular space personality and are mainly utilized to emphasize and disguise specific aspects within a room. For instance, the wall art in the hotel shows consistency of square shapes of the book storage-wall and also it is wooden with the form of curved woods. A designer should incorporate three components when choosing a pattern, such as the intensity of colors, the size of the room, and the scale of shapes composed within the model. It is essential to select a design pattern that incorporates substantial amounts of depth, texture, and color.
Motif
It is a significant subject, theme, or idea that is repeated continuously throughout the foundation of an artistic piece. A similar pattern or grouping used in a space can create a comprehensive open-plan, establishing a sense and flow of consistency. The use of motif can sometimes illustrate a specific set of components that bring up a particular emotional response. For instance, placing furniture in a specific manner can create feelings of intimacy or space; also, a motif of primary colors in a flowerbed might be projected to make visitors feel excited. Arranging furniture in a focal point such as a fireplace, and shuffling equipment at intervals can change the mood of a room. The space in Roost East Market hotel has a green flower vessel that Adjmi intended to make the customers happy and create a suitable environment.
Texture
Texture refers to the surface material quality and creates the appearance, feeling as well as consistency of an existing surface. Texture sets the theme and mood of the building separating the space into various kinds of visual and actual designs. Interior designers should be capable of developing an idea that brings specific emotions and feelings to enhance a brand (Kopec, 2018). The adjacent surfaces, lighting applied, and the viewing distance influences texture. For example, rough surfaces appear more textured in smooth surfaces, when grazed with light and observed up close. Besides, texture can be either visual or tactile. Visual texture is the feeling perception of the surface. Tactile is the actual feeling of a surface such as hard, soft, rough, and smooth. Texture aids to distinguish different surfaces and objects, influence scale, and transform light; however, it can also communicate a specific design style. For example, in the hotel, the beddings, patterned pillow, and some sofas have fabric texture. The fabric texture provides the space with a splendid and fashionable feeling. These various kinds of surfaces communicate a simple and sleek design style that frequently relates to modern interiors. A designer should balance a dominant texture by a different quality to avert overbearing room design. Combining patterns and textures make a design flow of a room.
Textile
Textile design is a specialization that entails generating patterns for woven, printed, knitted, or surface decorated fabrics. It constitutes the entire procedure in using raw material to make finished products. Textiles are vital in interior design as they can aid in setting a mood or bringing aspects together for a polished appearance. For example, Adjmi used a woven on the clothing and carpet, creating a connotation in the space. Thus, textiles make choices regarding the kinds of colors, textures, and patterns to utilize to establish the desired impact.
Finishing
Finishing is the final layer which fixes and protects the building elements of a surface. The segment plays an essential role in the psychological and visual description of interior space. The primary aim of the finishing layer is to protect the surface. Also, it is vital to coat floor, wall, and ceiling to establish an appropriate appearance and to safeguard the construction from impacts of abrasion, moisture, heat, and water. The level, flatness, and surface texture must be identified when determining the surface floor finish.
