Impact of Enterprise Skills and Graduate Skills on Employability

Some of the enterprise skills that individuals should have include problem solving, communication, teamwork, creativity, as well as innovative thinking (Sarkar and Overton, 2016, p.78). Apart from the graduate skills that most employees look for, enterprise skills have turned out important. When a person possesses different enterprise skills, there is a high chance for him or her to be employed.

People with graduate skills have always had the upper hand in getting job opportunities. Graduate skills have a positive impact on employability because employers always look for a person who has specified in particular areas (Fearon and van Vuuren, 2019, p.15).

Factor Responsible for the Increase In Graduate Un-Employability

One of these factors is increased competition. Competition has increased in the past few years because college education has been made more affordable (Donald, Baruch & Ashleigh, 2017, p.130).

Another factor that has led to increased graduate unemployability is little or no work experience. In the current society, most employers are looking for employees that have a few years of experience within the areas of specialty (Rothwell and Rothwell, 2017, p.45).

The third issue is networking whereby most people are employed based on referrals. Through referrals, a person will be able to be recommended for a certain job based on how they are known. Most graduates have not been able to get employed because they do not have a network that would have referred to certain job opportunities.

Implications on University Enrolment

The main way that it might affect university enrollment is that the number may start going down (Dudyrev, Romanova, and Travkin, 2019, p. 98). In this case, most people will start feeling that there is no need to attend high education institutions if they are rendered jobless after many years of education.

How the Labor Market Is Dealing With Graduate Un-Employability

Graduate un-employability has become a major issue in society. Lack of employment opportunities among many graduates has led to increased rates of crimes as these individuals are looking for a living. One of the ways that the labor market is dealing with these individuals is by providing them with paid internship programs for a certain period (Bazzani et al., 2018, p.78). These internship programs will help the graduates to be able to get the skills and experiences needed to work in various places. The other way that the labor market is dealing with unemployability is by conducting training. These training programs will help them to be able to attain the skills that are needed for the job. This approach means that a graduate from any field can apply, go through training, and get the job finally.

Research Background

The Role of the UK Higher Education Institution in Graduate Un-employability

Philosophical Position and Methodological Approach

One of the philosophical position that can be used during this research is positivism. Positivism entails observing a particular situation from an objective point of view without interfering with the matter being studied (Bhatta, 2018, p.75).

The second philosophical position that can be used during this research is interpretivism. This position is mainly focused on the interpretation of the reality being discovered during the research.

During this research, the methodological approach that is used to conduct the research will be drawn from both qualitative and quantitative research methods which include, interviewing, providing questionnaires, and obtaining secondary data (Bleiker et al., 2019, p.98).

Research Strategy: Data Collection and Justification of Their Appropriateness

One of the methods of data collection that will be used is interviewing. Both employed and unemployed graduates will be interviewed to identify the factors that affected their employability. The graduates who have been employed will be interviewed to help in understand the factor that helped them to get their respective jobs (Gravetter and Forzano, 2018, p.23). Secondly, the graduates who managed to be employed will be interviewed to understand the factors that played a critical role in the employment. This method can be justified to be appropriate because it will help to gain firsthand information that is free from any form of bias.

Another method of data collection that will be used in this research is secondary research. In this case, the past written literature will be studied critically to identify the main factors that have contributed to increased graduate unemployability. The criteria that will be used to justify the appropriateness of this method is credibility. When the source is credible, the information in it will likely be reliable.

Data Analysis

In this case, the main method that will be used for data analysis is the statistical analysis whereby MS Excel is the main application that will be used (Johnston, 2017, p.620). Another method that will be used for data analysis is descriptive data analysis.
