Strengths and challenges of the book
Scazzero has written is a book in a clear and simple manner making it understandable to most people. Regardless, there are some challenges in this book just like any other book. Starting with the strengths, the author has used the practical example on the ways Christians lack emotional immaturity where claiming that they are spiritually mature. For example, he uses his own experience when he had visited his friend who kept talking for hours without giving him a chance to speak. He was burning inside but did not want to show the signs. Such examples make the book relevant to the normal life of other Christians. Secondly, the author uses the bible and Jesus Christ as the reference of Christian living. When he talks about not being God, he uses examples of Jesus on how Jesus did not save everyone. Since the lives of Christians are attached to Christ, Christians are able to relate that they cannot do everything to everyone.
Thirdly, the author gives hope to Christians that there it is possible to mature spiritually and emotionally. All that is required is staying with God's family which is the church that will help us grow. It also takes the courage to use our past experience to shape the future while at the same time following the Ten Commandments.
The book possesses challenges that Christians will face in their journey to spiritual and emotional maturity. In fact, when starting, the authors ask "So you think it's a lovely world? There are so many aspects of the humanity of humanity that makes it difficult to have a practical relationship with Christ. Christians are required to have courage, meekness, patience and accepting God's rhythm in our lives which is not easy.
Application one's current life
Scazzero's book is a practical book that can be applied in the normal living of any Christians. I have learned from the book that is emotionally mature and spiritually contemplative requires removing the mask of pretense and allowing Jesus to work in us. Therefore, my intention after reading this book is to allow myself to grow spiritually and to also have emotional maturity. There are ten ways that I will use that o have gathered from the book in order to achieve this. One, I will be checking whether I am using God to run from Him. I will be checking on the way I use the word of God to see whether that is what is required of me. I will be keen on what I pray whether it is my own wish or that of God.
Second, I will not be ignoring emotions of sadness, fear, and anger because I have learned that this is part of the life of human beings and that it is Godly. Third, I will be willing to die from the wrong things and not the healthy desires and pleasures of life. I have realized that music, friendship, art, and refreshment are not forbidden. I will learn to water them in order to get what is right instead of denying myself all these. Fourth, I will be going back and forth in order to use my past to shape my future as a mature Christian. Fifth and sixth, I will work on practices of being with God and not working for God as well as the understanding the difference between secular and sacred living. These two points will help me understand what God wants me to live a practical life.
Seventh, I have learned that conflict is normal. Hence, I intend to embrace conflict in order to find a solution. Eighth, I will not be covering my weakness since that they will be living a lie which is not the will of God. Ninth, I have realized that there is a boundary in living. I will practice living as a normal human being. Lastly, since I am a follower of Christ, I will not be judging other Christian's spiritual journey since we are on the same journey.
