Introduction

I am the ever-devout Christian, having been brought up in a fourth generational Bible-believing Catholic family, it is only natural that I would find religion second to nature. However, I surprised myself when I interacted with scripture when I was 12 years old. For some reason, I got tired of always getting a quote of scripture here and there each time I attended mass in the only diocese in our small town. I mean, I never got the whole story. So, I get the moral lesson in the verse but not exactly the context of the scripture itself. And just like that, I made the decision to start reading the Bible for myself and interpret the text in a way that I would understand the context and meanings in it. Reading my Bible has been an invigorating experience, it is nothing like what you get in church when your pastor reads a verse from it, I find it quite adventurous and interesting to read.

The one thing that surprised me about reading the Bible is that it is actually a storybook. No one will tell you this in your Church or Christian fellowship. Well, at least not plainly. I used to think that the Bible was a collection of different unrelated books put together as Christian inspirations scriptures. However, once you begin reading it, you will appreciate the continuity of the storyboard it details from how God created the world from nothing in the beginning, that is in the book of Genesis, to how He is going to destroy it with fire in the end and build a whole new world in the last book of Revelations. Once I had this understanding, I knew that the Bible was not a set of inspirational and spiritual scriptures only but the very master plan of God's intentions with the world and mankind.

The Bible is even more intriguing when you read it and try to compare it to reality as sometimes it seems like it is fictitious. For instance, the story of David slaying a giant with a sling stone is almost unbelievable and can be likened to the story of 'Jack and the beanstalk' as a fiction story. However, things become even more unrealistic and tend to be on the lines of fiction when you read about God creating the world, heavens, and everything in them using his words. I mean, how can sound do that. Similarly, you become more discomforted by reading how there were giants in the land of Canaan where even the animals and the plants were gigantic in what seems like a scene from a Disney movie. As I read these parts of the Bible, I could not help but think how creative Bible writers were and that modern-day directors and writers of film use ideas that are already in scripture to make science fiction and fantasy movies.

However, that is not the most intriguing part of scripture yet. When you read the Bible, you will also get to come across the magnificent power of the creator God who is at loggerheads with other lesser gods. I read it and noticed that the creator God chose a people called the Israelites so that he could use them to transform the world to come to worship Him the true God. In the book of Exodus, the 10 plagues of Egypt read like a script from a magic movie where God's power is seen splitting the Red sea and sending plagues to the Egyptians all in an effort to save them from slavery. Reading this, I could not help but wonder how much God Himself is a magician of sorts as his magic is superior and above all other lesser gods. I read this and realized that the Bible has themes that I see on television all the time. Magic, for instance, is a constant theme in Hollywood and Disney films only that the magic orchestrated by God in the Bible is unmatched by modern-day magicians.

I am yet to read all the books in the Bible, however, I always come across miracles performed by Jesus, the son of God. Some of which even modern magicians have failed to replicate such as turning water into wine or feeding 5000 people with five fish and two loaves of bread. Unbelievable is the term I wanted to use to describe how many of the writings in the scriptures might seem out of touch with the reality that we live in today.

Conclusion

In conclusion, reading my Bible has been a journey of discovery so far that it only makes me yearn more to read the word. I not only get spiritually filled and edified but also come to realize that much of God's word in the scriptures is related to how we as human beings should live with one another, treat each other, and care for one another in anticipation of living up to God's plan for His creation. That is why I read it daily to discover something new about God's plan for his creation.
