Introduction
L.A. Confidential is a movie produced in 1992 produced and co-written by Curtis Harrison which is based on the 199's novel of the same name authored by James Ellroy's in his third book of L.A Quartet series. The film is a blend of the multiple crimes, love stories and the slew of characters who take part in the highly dramatic events. The film revolves around the tale of the group of LAPD officers in 1953, with the connection of Hollywood celebrity and police corruption. In the course of the movie, the characters change for the reason depending on the circumstances that they find themselves into, the table rolled, and some killed one another, example Edmund killed Dudley. In that case, the following essay will focus on some of the main characters of the film, Jack, Bud and Edmund, and their stance on crime and justice considering the change they take throughout the movie.
Bud
The character of Bud White is depicted as a police officer who defended women against violent and selfish men. He undergoes a drastic change and breaks the rules so as seek justice especially to the deprived girls, though he is barely able to keep his rampant violence under control. He investigates the crime without support from his colleagues or without considering any police morals or restriction, aggressive, vengeful and he is desperate for justice. His change in hunting the woman-bustard started when his mother was murdered, and the murder was never found. Now since he is an adult, he decided to kill every person who assaults women. He has an acute sense of justice when his former employer was killed in a Nite Owl massacre he seeks for justice by investigating the events and discovered very dark secrets. Indeed the change that is brought by his mother's death transformed his perception in seeking justice and decides to do things in a way that he feels it is right.
Jack
He is one of the main characters that enjoy the attention more than his police colleagues. Most of his times he spends selling gossip to the journalist though he does his police work. He is determined to fight with any sought of corruption; it is observed that he came across some evidence of the corruption of the highest levels in the department and he feels that it is his responsibility to help bring justice to the city. However, there is an instance when Jack arrested a marijuana smoker and accepted to take the bribe and release him.
Edmund ExleyEdmund is one of the cops who sis does not want to make his hands duty when tackling crime; instead he desires to rise to the top of the ranks just like his murdered father. Edmund began to change when he developed a sense of investigating the person who killed his father, what he only knows is that his father was killed by the person referred to as the Rolo Tomasi. However, as the film progresses, Edmund had a confrontation with Dudley which made him shoot him despite his principles on maintaining a good reputation in the police.
Conclusion
Conclusively, the L.A. Confidential is the film that is filled with action, charisma, and suspensions. The change that is observed from the three main characters is brought out by the previous experiences that they had before and after joining the police force. It goes without saying that, Edmund, Jack, and Bud are determined to handle the criminal gangs, though, the change that occurs in their personal life brings change in performing their duties.
