The American Society
The American Society for Public Administration is an article by Richard Stillman in which the author talks about the American vs European public administration. In this article, Stillman has tried to define what the public administration means. In this regard, the author has stated that public administration is a discipline that has worried several American Administrative scholars in the entire century. The article starts by looking into ways in which Dwight Waldo conceived about the American state compared to the state experience for European. Stillman concludes that public administration is intricately intertwined on both sides of the Atlantic with state development. Therefore, Stillman says that our Public Administration can only be comprehended within a certain state context as well as within a peculiar. In contrast, the European states make a public administration while on the other hand, within America, the reverse is considered to be true.
The article establishes that America has produced less original political theory. In this note, The Federalist Papers has been classified as the best contribution in America. Some people have argued that the American, like Rome, conducts their politics in a good manner but fails to offer proper additions to the Western. Stillman further points out that the American State that was described by Waldo is a current innovation. The article also recognizes the title of Waldo as a book which underscores and in which the United States was and remained an administrative nation. Moreover, the United States was envisioned by Waldo and rooted in a peculiar which is referred to as the indigenous constellation of United States Values. Stillman recognizes the term public administration as a reflection of experimental as well as the grassroots used to create institutional reforms essential for serving the public. Finally, in the entire article, Stillman follows Dwight Waldo’s practice of applying public administration in lower case as a reference for institutions.
Modernity and Bureaucracy
Modernity Bureaucracy is an article by Fred Riggs in which the author tends to examine modernity as a concept and how it has been essential in shaping up the administrative states as they are today. Modernity is based in the context of democratization, industrialization and nationalization. In this article, Fred has termed industrialization as a concept that has grown at a very high rate both to the work that has been assigned in the entire contemporary government as well as the resources that has been situated at their disposal for instance, domestically and internationally. Fred points out that this has not only increased the need for humane public administration, but it has also increased the need for efficiency. Additionally, it has also magnified the necessity brought about by the bureaucratic power to make it possible that there is impartial management and competent for public affairs. This helps to enhance the chances for mismanagement and corruption as well.
The article Modernity Bureaucracy also points on the effects that are as a result of democratization that has been significant to replace monarchs through the use of representative institutions that can control and direct increasingly bureaucracies that is complex. Fred argues that when the institutions fail to work effectively, there is a likelihood that the public administration can collapse. The article further addresses that nationalism has played a significant role in the creation of contemporary democracies. Although in some countries, for instance, the America, strain that has been created by imperial conquests as well as mass migrations have now established what is known to as the inter-ethnic tension. The article has generalized the implications of modernity through three fundamental hypotheses which include maladministration, Bureau power and Authority.
The Policy Domain
The policy domain by Paul Burstein is an article which examines the sociologists’ interest in the public policy. Burstein argues that there has been a rapid growth of the sociological interest in recent years. Moreover, Burstein believes that the most effective method that is applicable in the study of the policy is to focus mostly on the transition within the policy domains. In this regard, Burstein argues that such kind of domains is considerable in the extent of social construction, which is established through interactions among various institutions and given meaning by culture. The article further points out that the policy is influenced by formal institutions and other relations among them for both formal and informal rules that govern the interinstitutional relationship. According to Burstein, the public policy affected and also given meaning by culture. Legislation, administrative regulations and policy issues are socially constructed, as stated in the article by Burstein.
The author examines that the government corporation is dynamically formulating policies and implement them; this makes them impersonal in any engagement among social groups. The policy domains focus on one or trickle of domains hence elevating a lot of questions about the nature of governance in the modern society. Furthermore, when evaluating policy domains in sociology and social science, it appears to be faintness in conceptualization; hence measurements are more crucial in the preceding work. Policy domains analysis upsurges many questions more so the nature of government in the up to date society, particularly the corporation of the society. The article points out that the evolutionary and garbage model reveals that the state of the world is considered to be ambiguous.
To Map Contentious Politics
To map contentious politics is an article by Doug McAdam, Sidney Tarrow and Charles Tilly which focuses on various forms of politics, for instance revolutions, social movement as wells as ethnic mobilizations. The three authors in this article provides a basis for comparisons and synthesis. Some of the fundamental themes that are addressed in this article is synthesizing theory as well as the research of contentious politics. In this regard, the two features that are outlined on social science militate include the increased insular and the challenges inherent in and the limited professional rewards that encourage effort, particularly on the empirical stock-taking. The article further cites that the two features produce a proliferation of special scholarship that are significant to vitae. Still, on the other hand, it is little to the general knowledge. The article suggests that the mapping of the study of contentious politics can be handled in an epistemological manner.
According to MacAdam, Tarrow and Tilly, the map contains four main clusters which include the political histories, state-oriented politics and geographically social changes and finally the conflict and violence per se. The journal article further points out that social movement is defined as a sustained interaction which involves mighty people and those that are lacking might. Moreover, a social movement is believed to unfold within limits that are established by political opportunity structures. Additionally, the article also addresses the collective identities and social networks. In this note, the initial map illustrates the challenges as a result of unrealized connections and the need for bringing together two perspectives on social network and in contentious politics. Furthermore, the authors of the article examine institutional politics and social movement. In doing so, the journal article argues that on the embeddedness of an accumulative action, particularly on some communities and on social networks, there is an underscore of a basic claim.
The Reform or Revolution
The Reform or Revolution by Rosa Luxemburg is an article in which the author addressed the dangers of the reformism, particularly on the socialist’s movement. In his argument, Luxemburg points out that regarding things such as the function of the credit, imperialism and the capitalist crisis all retain a significant contemporary relevance. In his article, the author anticipates that reformists were not proposing to accomplish the objective of socialism compared to the revolutionaries, although they were on track to a different goal. The subsequent development has achieved this progress. However, there was no established analysis of reformism in the article by Luxemburg; there is a frequent overlook owing to focus mostly on Lenin’s article. Although the thinkers who based on this subject are regarded as complementary to each other. Luxemburg believes that there were differences between which the two over what conclusion could be drawn.
In The Reform or Revolution article, Lenin addresses on the Bolshevik Party in an attempt to separate the revolutionary forces that existed in Russia in which they originated from the reformists Mensheviks. The article further examines two great tests of the time which include the post-war revolution and the outbreak of World War I in which Lenin was proved right. The author was not critical on the aspect of SPD’s reformism but failed to create an independent revolutionary party that would seek to challenge for the entire leadership that was experienced in the German working class. Despite justification regarding false arguments directed against the reformism, a good example of challenges that were experienced by the socialist leaders was due to lack of comprehensive reformism within the working class.
An Indigenous Perspective
An indigenous perspective by Carmichael is an article which tends to examine whether voting is not harming reduction. Based on this aspect, this article by Carmichael points out when the proclamation is made based on the concept that “voting is harm reduction” there is clear justification on how less harm is determined. Some of the questions that are raised on this article are whether there is need to compare how many millions of indigenous people who are not documented have been deported and whether we should add up what political party had conducted in a drone strike. Carmichael says that some political distinctions exist between the prominent parties. The author goes further to give an example of blue and red which he termed them as a stripe on a rag waving which happened over the stolen lands, for instance, a country that has been established through stolen lives.
Conclusion
Articles claim that if voting is recognized as democratic involvement in our oppression, therefore, on the other hand, voting as harm reduction can be established as politics that keeps people at the mercy of their oppressors. The author also examines the native vote, which is based on the strategy of colonial domination. In this aspect, before the settler for colonial invasion, the indigenous people adhered to a vast complex for a cultural organization that was partially recognized within the European invaders. Articles also discuss on assimilation within the strategy of enfranchisement. The historic acts in this aspect of voter’s suppression seem to contradict the strategy of assimilation. Finally, authors argue that the cost of citizenship has remained as peoples’ sovereignty in which the conditions of citizenship have been based on the service to the white supremacy.
