Introduction
After the end of the cold war and the terrorist attack that took place on September 11th, 2001, the United States saw a need to shift its domestic and foreign policies. The United States, this September 11th attack of 2001 faced by many other similar threats that had taken up the lives of so many people. However, when this terror attack took place and led to the loss of so many Americans in New York and Washington DC, the American commentators felt and thought that it was a time that had come for America to completely shift and change its policies of interaction with the other parts of the world . The impact of this attack was the main reason that had led to such a decision being taken by the stakeholders in American governance. There are so many areas through which America changed its domestic and foreign policies with the aim of being aware and avoiding the rampant terrorist attacks that had claimed the lives of many people in America. Discussed herein are the various ways through which the terror attack of September 11th 2001, led to a change of the domestic and foreign policies in the United States of America.
The Policy Changes
As stated above, the cold war, the Soviet Union attacks, and then the terror attack of 2001 September 11th had hit hard on the American people. These events left the economy of America stumbled, and so many people died out of the severity of the attacks. The government of America saw the need to change its foreign and domestic policies in various ways as far as the security of the people in the whole of America was concerned. Immediately after the 2001 event, plans to shift the policies and change the interaction and or cooperation with other countries of the world began, and after a short while, everything changed permanently for the good of the people. Some of the ways through which the policies were changed are;
Unity of the American People
With the main aim of the terrorists being to make sure that the American cooperation with the global partners, especially in the Middle East, this was something that America would never imagine doing because it would lead to a drastic failure of the economy. The failure of the economy would weaken America and give the attacking countries or rather the terrorists a room to strike even harder with weakened America. As a result, America had to establish more strong ties with the Middle East countries like Israel and Russia so that it would maneuver through the plans of these terrorists and maintain an effective result bearing cooperation with the Middle East countries at all times. This made America to slightly alter the cooperation policies with the Middle East countries and make better strategies that would see them in a better position. In addition, the bond of the United States and countries like Israel, which would be relied on in such times of attacks to help regulate the magnitude, was by all chances made stronger than usual.
Internally, the government employed measures of keeping the people informed and aware that they needed to remain united even during the hard times of the attacks. These new policies to make the people aware of the advantages of remaining united bore fruit and made a great change in the wellbeing of America afterward. All the citizens and non-citizens in amerce remained focused and oriented towards achieving the goals of the nation by taking part in the active nation-building activities even under the impact of the attacks that had stroke them hard leaving them in a state of helplessness. In addition, the internal intelligence among the individuals of the United States was enhanced through measures of asking the people to monitor their daily interactions with other. It was important to ensure that one was aware of the people around them and they suspected something unusual they were encouraged to report it to the authorities as soon as possible so that the government and security agencies would realize unexpected intrusion of high-risk people. In other words, the government put in place measures of inters citizen monitoring to ensure that the presence of criminals within the states would be easily identified, and the best control measures are taken to counter their plans early before they stroke.
Border Intelligence Enhancement
With most of the terrorists coming from rivals of America, the country had to make sure that the level of intelligence in the borders was enhanced so that any plans of the terrorists to trespass and attack the parts of America would be identified easily and dealt with effectively. More security personnel in the line of intelligence were hired by the American government because it needed enough sources of information and reliable people who would do investigations and identify any planned attacks by the rivals so that they could be countered before they attacked. In addition, the government, through the internal and external security agencies, had to enhance the performance of all the security personnel by the creation of new ways of performing their duties, the organization of the roles in these agencies, among other things. Some of the security bodies that were enhanced during that time are the FBI and the internal police bodies in America.
Conclusion
From the changes that were experienced in American internal or rather domestic and foreign policies, the security of the American people has really improved. From the history of the attacks in the United States, it is clear that the terrorist attacks have really gone down since these foreign and domestic policies were revised and the changes imposed. There is no record of an attack that has hit America in recent years, which is of the same magnitude as that of the September 11th 2001, and the cold war. This means that the domestic and foreign policies that were put in place after the 2001 attack were well-formulated, and they really worked to reduce the rampant cases of terrorism in America.
However, America revised and changed the foreign security policies with a lot of carefulness so that international cooperation with the outside countries was not affected. This sensitivity in the planning and implementation of the policies has impacted in a positive way throughout the whole of America. The commercial activities have continued as usual with the Middle East countries, yet security and awareness of terrorist attacks still remain a vital consideration even in the daily interactions of these countries. Were it not for the good policies introduced in the foreign countries cooperation with America and in the various states of America; terrorists would have taken advantage of this and continued with their activities which would have as of now led to the death of so many people, interrupted the economic activities thus pulling the economy downwards and the lack of peace in the country. Better policies are and have continued to be introduced in America for the purpose of intensifying the security from the prospective terrorist groups. The September 11th 2001 attack was an event that has really contributed to the revolution of America in so many ways, especially as far as security is concerned.
