Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs Theory is a concept that describes and outlines hierarchy of needs and its implications and limitations to the management. It is a model that motivates people to reach their highest level referred to as self-actualization (Tay, 2011). The relationship between leaders and those who work under them in a given organization or workplaces should be that of mutual understanding. This creates a healthy working environment due to motivated workers. In this line of thinking, Maslow's theory encourages managers to understand people's motivating factors. This way they are able to get ways to understand what kind of working environment those under them work best under. It is also important to note that it encourages the need for those in managerial positions to be committed in raising esteems of those working under them. The core point in this theory is the need to understand different needs at different times of workers to make them efficient and more productive.

Recently, at my work place I happened to be promoted to a managerial position. This has greatly influenced my both attitude and self-confidence in the recent past. I feel more confident with myself acknowledging the fact that people now look up to me for guidance, mentoring and as their leader. It has been amazing how motivated I feel and give my best to the organization. Additionally I am more obligated to do my level best as I do my work ensuring I deliver especially to those who have put so much trust in me to lead them. It has completely changed my mind set as I am more focused on how I could be of benefit the organization and take it to the next level rather than how the company benefits from me.

Human relations are an important aspect any person in managerial position. I have personally been able to recognize workers as individuals with different needs. It is important to relate their needs and making valid plans, attempts and efforts to respond accurately to those needs. One of my human relation weaknesses can be described as the inability to balance on striving to make the organization structure survive and helping of workers achieve self-actualization goals. It is important to note that one should be in apposition to balance both responding to organizational needs of ensuring survival of the structure and encouraging, motivating and recognition of workers needs.

Conflict in general may generally sound like a negative aspect, but that is not always the case. Conflict can be both positive and negative and is referred to as functional and dysfunctional respectively. Functional conflict brings change and brings solution in an organization, possibly between a group or individuals. An example is between was the consultation before purchasing a piece of land from the neighborhood to expand on the industry. The purchase had demanded a good relationship with the people surrounding the area but a complaint has been raised. Concern is it increases pollution of surrounding water bodies due to dumping of waste from the industry. I needed a win-win situation and criticism from concerned community brought forth a functional conflict thus positive results. The community would benefit from increase in employment for locals. Dysfunctional conflict tend to be negative and could simply described as a win-lose situation. Example is the attempt to build a new industry in a location that demands clearing of a forests. Locals are emotional on the possible destruction of the forests hence dangers of climate change. It is important to note that in functional conflict there is improvements and new innovations within an organizations. Moreover, both sides have clear understanding of issues not leaving the fact that they is solving of issues in an understanding way. In contrast, in dysfunctional conflict, both parties end up losing. This type of conflict further brings negativity.

Carol Bartz, is a renowned for her direct and disciplined management style. She is regarded as decisive and known for getting her hands dirty. Her character trait of speaking her mind out famously regarded to as plain-spoken has also been used to describe her communication style. I personally observe her as a go getter who is confident enough to publicly swear while giving an appointment speech. She is quite enthusiastic to begin and undertake another position. In conclusion, her message is encouraging to those who work under her as they begin to work under new management.
